"Rosati-Kain standout hitter Lydia Ely was beyond demoralized to have to sit idly by with a bum ankle and watch as her team got hammered by perennial state power Incarnate Word in a district final last fall.

"I was very bummed," said Ely, who is 6 feet 6.

Ely was healthy and ready to go for the rematch in the Class 4 District 5 final Thursday on the Red Knights' home floor, and she made a big difference. The senior was one of three Kougars who tallied eight kills to help top-seeded Rosati turn the tables on the Red Knights, 25-21, 25-11."
