R-K Students at World Food Day

As part of October Day celebrations, a group of R-K students will participate in World Food Day at the Danforth Plant Science Center. Student volunteers will package meals for people facing critical food shortages in sub-Saharan Africa. The Danforth Center's scientific research involves finding long-term solutions to the scourge of hunger and malnutrition in the developing part of the world. Students will learn about both short and long-term solutions to food shortages throughout the world.

Trip coordinator and Biology teacher, Donna Scott, finds that the service work is done in a spirit of thanksgiving: "Most, if not all, of the Rosati family are very, very blessed. We often don't really know how good we have it until we get out of our comfortable surroundings...here is one small way our girls can give back to show their gratitude for the things they have."

She also has faith in her students' futures: "Who knows? Someday we may see the name of an R-K girl as a woman winning a Nobel Prize for discoveries that help provide more nutritious food for people in places like Somalia."
