Music

Rosati-Kain offers many opportunities for those who love to be involved in music. Our Choruses and Instrumental ensembles perform two concerts during the school year, with various additional performing opportunities throughout the year.

Note: These groups are part of the class curriculum and will count toward fine arts credit hours. They are listed here for your reference, but are not considered solely extra-curricular activities.

Freshmen Chorus: Freshmen may join this class and perform in our two Concerts.

Advanced Chorus: Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors may audition for this 50+ student vocal Chorus. Enrichment opportunities that are available include auditioning for the District and State Honors Choirs in the fall, and Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring.

R-K Voices: R-K's elite singing group is open to Juniors and Seniors by audition. The R-K Voices perform at our Christmas Concerts and other singing events throughout the year, as well as entertaining St. Louis with their caroling during the Christmas Season.

Instrumental 1: This course provides basic instruction of a particular instrument. Practice and instruction are the basis of this class. There are no prerequisites.

Instrumental 2: This course provides both small and large group instrumental experiences in the classroom for those who are sufficiently beyond beginning instruments. The prerequisite is the basic playing ability on an instrument or desire to begin playing a different instrument.

R-K Ensemble: this course provides both small and large group performance experiences for those who are sufficiently advanced on their instruments. Performance is the basis of this class. The ensemble performs at various school events and the Archdiocesan Secondary Instrumental Music Festival. There is also the opportunity for individuals to audition for district and state honors groups. The prerequisites are advanced knowledge and skill of a particular instrument (piano included). Membership is by audition only. Students must have their own instrument approved by the instructor or rent from Nottelmann Music Company.

Guitar I:  This first-semester course is for those who have little or no prior experience in playing guitar.  Students will learn to read both chords and notes, and various strumming and finger-picking patterns.  Students must have their own acoustic (not electric) guitar, or rent one from Nottlemann Music Company or other store.

Guitar II:  This course is a continuation of Guitar I, for those who wish to continue their study of the guitar.

Music Theory:  This first-semester course for juniors and seniors explores the structure and composition of music.  Students will do ear-training, build scales and chord progressions, and compose original music.

Music History:  This second-semester course for juniors and seniors explores the history of music from the Middle Ages through the 20th century, including its relationship to world history.

Fall Musical:  Any student my audition for the fall musical, which is directed by instructors in the drama and music departments. There are also many opportunities for those who wish to be involved as a crew member rather than a cast member.

Music Ministry:  This club, open to all students, serves the RK community by leading the music at school liturgies.  Music Ministry meets two Thursday mornings per month, before school.
