R-K's Centennial Song

In preparation for R-K's 100th Anniversary, teachers Luanne Murphy and Laura Govero-Yann (‘69) worked together to write a new R-K school song, which is currently being taught in the Freshmen and Advanced Chorus classes. The pair penned the lyrics in August of 2008, drawing ideas and themes from the R-K prayer. The song was performed several times during the 2008-2009 school year, including Archbishop Carlson's initial visit to R-K in February and the spring concert.

We stand as women of Rosati-Kain

Joined in mission, faith, and love, living lives of integrity, justice and peace,

Seeking the guidance of our God above.

We stand as sisters with a common bond:

Joy, hope and strength from friendship we gain.

Eyes on the future, honoring our past,

Grateful to you, Rosati-Kain,

Grateful to you, Rosati-Kain!

The first R-K school song was written by Sr. Aurelia Catherine, C.S.J. and Mother Bernard Joseph, C.S.J. in December, 1912.  The words were as follows:

Dear home of our happy girlhood
 Loved vision that will last
When youth is dead and its
 Joys are fled
 Away to the beautiful past

A song of praise for your golden days,
 Oh swell the glad refrain.
Afar or near you'll e'er be dear
 Rosati-Kain, Rosati-Kain.

 Rosati-Kain, oh sweet refrain
 You'll fade from memory never.
 Rosati-Kain, Rosati-Kain
 Your praise we'll sing forever
 Rosati-Kain, oh sweet refrain
 You'll fade from memory never.
 Rosati-Kain, Rosati-Kain
 Your praise we'll sing forever

About the year 1950, the students suggested changing the school song to something that would cheer the athletic teams on to victory.  The words and music for the second school song were also the work of the Sisters of St. Joseph, written by Sr. Anna Rita and Sr. Mary Arthur.  The words were as follows:

 Rosati-Kain unfurl your banner
Of royal gold and purple hue,
 Bringing us its message
 "Learn to dare and do."
 Rosati-Kain we love you dearly
 and pledge our loyalty anew.
Whenever you call, we'll respond one and all
And to ourselves and you be true.

Day by day you dearer grow
 To each daughter's heart,
As you teach us on life's stage
 To play well our part.
We shall wear the victor's crown
 If in work and play
We do no wrong, in our hearts a song
 That's alma mater's way.

These days, students at R-K have a different cheer.  Simply known as "The Victory Cheer" this has become a staple at Rosati pep rallies and athletic events held in the gym.  The cheer is led by the R-K cheerleaders, who sit in the center of the gymnasium, clapping and hitting the floor to the beat while other students surround them and follow on.  The cheer is shouted as follows:

Cheerleaders: Victory!  Victory!  Let's repeat it!
Echo: (Victory!  Victory!  Let's repeat it!)
 Cheerleaders: Never, we'll be defeated!
 Echo: (Never, we'll be defeated.)
Cheerleaders: Fight team!  Fight team, with all your might team!
Echo: (Fight team!  Fight team, with all your might team!)
Cheerleaders: Come on team, we want it!
Echo: (Come on team, we want it!)
 Cheerleaders: GO!
 Echo: (GO!)
 Cheerleaders: GO FIGHT!
 Echo: (GO FIGHT!)
 Cheerleaders: GO FIGHT WIN!
 Echo: (GO FIGHT WIN!)
 Everyone: Woooo!
