Clubs/Organizations
R-K has many exciting clubs and organizations for students to choose from.
The following opportunities to participate are available to Rosati-Kain students:
- Diversity Club- The Diversity Club promotes fun educational activities that will interrupt prejudice, work for peace and encourage a better understanding of different cultures, religions, races, abilities and gender in our school and world communities. The Club participates in activities at Rosati as well as with other Catholic schools in the area.
- Environmental Club - The environmental club provides an opportunity for students to heighten their awareness of environmental issues and participate in activities which serve the community at large, and the Rosati-Kain community in particular. The club presently meets once a month from 7:45 until 8:05 to organize field trips, projects, and awareness activities. All students are invited to join. Students sign up to recycle paper and plastic bottles from the school, make environmental fact signs to hang up in the building, share environmental facts over the televised morning news during Earth Week and participate in field trips.
- French Club (Le cercle Francais) - The French Club is open for membership to all students. The club meets once a month for French activities. The activities include cooking, movies, games, French culture and community benevolent projects. The club is directed by officers who set the calendar and plan the meetings. Venez nombreux!
- Model United Nations - Model United Nations is open to all students. The students meet on Saturdays at Crossworld School. The goals are to increase awareness of current events in and outside of the United States, to introduce the UN organization as a means to facilitate discussion and peacemaking, to encourage students to actively participate in and form opinions about government and international events and to challenge students to examine and represent all sides of an issue. Students will improve skills in public speaking, negotiating and compromising, working with rules of others, listening to other speakers, questioning the accuracy and truthfulness of others and learning respect for other peoples' and countries' perspectives and goals.
- National Honor Society - National Honor Society is the premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. Selection is based on Scholarship (4.6 is R-K's minimum GPA), Leadership, Service and Character. Rosati-Kain's members are active in school service projects such as the blood drive, faculty recognition, alumnae luncheon and other service activities. members are also available as tutors for fellow students.
- OSM (Oversees Missions) - Over Seas Mission Club seeks to raise funds for the very poor who abide in the world community. The students are given the opportunity to excerise leadership and share skills and resources towards this goal. Effirts are extended primarily toward mission activities of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Members meet once or twice per month after school.
- Pro-Life Club - The Pro-Life Club promotes the value of life in our community. They participate in the Pro-Life March in January in Washington, D.C. Any student may participate in the club or trip. The trip does require a fee from the student.
- School Newspaper (The Occasional) - The Occasional newspaper is a student-produced publication put out approximately five times per year. The staff meets an estimated one to two times per month in the morning before school or as needed to complete each edition. Any student who is interested in joining the newspaper staff must submit an application (at the beginning of the school year) in addition to examples of written work, artwork, or format design, depending on desired position. Students are also expected to participate in the compilation and distribution processes of turning out a newspaper.
- Saving Our Students (S.O.S) - S.O.S is a Rosati-Kain High School organization that focuses on educating, informing and supporting student groups in the area of depression education, suicide prevention and mental health issues. S.O.S. is affiliated with KUTO (Kids Under Twenty One) a local, non-profit organization. All students are welcome to attend monthly meetings to discuss strategies and activities that promote awareness in the school community. Dues of $4.00 are requested for membership.
- Spanish Club - The Spanish Club explores and promotes knowledge and interest in the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. Students organize acitvities such as movies in Spanish, guest speakers, field trips and "fiestas" that help our members become more familiar with local, national and international links to all aspects of the language and cultures. We meet approximately four times per semester for activities.
- Student Council and Class Officers (see leadership)
- Yearbook - This activity is open to all upperclassmen interested in publishing a chronicle of the events at 4389 Lindell Boulevard. Students write articles and complete layouts using the inDesign programs. Students work on the publication twice a week after school and occasionally on "break" days. Students also learn the basics of good photography.
- Library Guild - The Library Guild assists the librarian by working at the circulation desk, creating displays, and processing new materials. The main requirement is a desire to be of service to the school. Secondary requirements include being able to alphabetize and count to 100! The average time commitment is 4 mods a cycle.
- Mock Trial Team - The goal of the mock trial team is to educate interested students about the basis of our American judicial system and the mechanics of litigation. Through participation in the mock trial program, students will increase basic skills such as listening, speaking, writing, reading and problem analysis. All participants are encouraged to keep in mind that the goal of the mock trial program is not to win for the sake of winning, but to learn and understand the meaning of good citizenship in a democracy through the participation in our law and justice system. Currently, Rosati-Kain sponsors two teams who compete in the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis' Annual Mock Trial Competition. Teams participate in this competition by trying a fictitious case against other teams.
- Speech Team - Rosati's speech team is a member of the Christian Interscholastic Speech League, which holds four competitions (three general meets, one awards meet) per school year at area high schools. Students may enter categories including story-telling, extemporaneous speaking, prose or poetry reading, radio broadcasting, original oratory, and duet acting. Students are chosen for the team through audition, and are expected to memorize their selections, meet with peer coaches, and attend a general team meeting once a week. The top seven students in each category, which are determined through performance scores from the three general meets, are invited to participate in the League's final meet, where trophies are awarded.
